Most free PDF translators give you the words back and lose the page. The headings shift, the fonts change, and the slides you spent a week on come back as plain text in Word.
We had the same problem with our own tool. When we ran a 16-slide conference deck through it in October, every headline came back in Calibri. So we rebuilt how it handles PDFs, and today the free wxrks PDF translator gives you three files instead of one.

Three Files for Every PDF
An editable Word file. The translation as a DOCX, for when you want to change a word, add a page, or send it to a reviewer.
A PDF that keeps your design. Your original pages with the text swapped. Photos, backgrounds, charts, and logos stay exactly where they were, and the translation sits on the same lines, in the same colors, in a font close to the original.
The same PDF as page images. One picture per page, for a file that prints and displays the same everywhere.

How It Keeps the Design
A PDF stores its words on top of the artwork. We read those words with their position, size, and color, have wxrks translate them in context, then take only the words off each page and write the translation back in the same spot. Nothing else on the page moves.
Translations usually run longer than English, so each line gets the room it needs. A headline can grow into empty space beside it, a paragraph can grow downward, and anything that still doesn't fit shrinks a little. Labels in a list keep the same size, so the page still looks designed.
It's honest about its limits. Text inside images, like a screenshot, stays in the original language. Scanned PDFs, which are pictures of pages, can't be translated yet. When the original font only carries English letters, we use the closest free font, so the type looks similar rather than identical. If you want to know why some files are harder than others, we wrote about the formats that are hardest to translate.
Free for One Document a Day
You can translate one document a day, up to 1,000 words, without creating an account. Upload, pick a language, and check the first page before you download. Enter your email to get the files, and we send you the links too. PDFs get the three files above, and Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files come back in the format you uploaded.
Your file and its translations are deleted after 30 days.
Open Source, So You Can See What Happens to Your File
The translator's code is public at github.com/wxrks-builders/pdf-translation. You can read how it handles your file, run it yourself, or improve it.
It's released under the GNU Affero General Public License, a license that lets anyone use and change the code as long as they share their changes too.
We'd rather show you the code than ask you to trust a promise. A tool that handles your documents should be one you can check.
When You Translate More Than One File a Day
The free translator is a small version of what wxrks does for teams. In the wxrks platform, your translation memory and glossary shape every file, Sous-Chef keeps the tone you set, and your reviewers fix what matters before anything ships.
If you're comparing options, our guide to the best AI PDF translators tests 15 tools side by side.
